Factory resetting your phone can be very useful. It means your phone won’t have any of your personal information if you’re sending it for repair or selling it on.

How to factory reset an Android phone

  1. Make sure your phone is turned off
  2. Hold down the power and volume up keys (if you have a home button, hold this down too)
  3. After a few seconds your phone will load to a menu. Use the volume keys to move up and down the menu
  4. Use the power key to select ‘Wipe date’ or ‘Factory reset’
  5. Use the power key to confirm the reset
  6. After the reset, you’ll be sent back to the same menu. This time select ‘Reboot system’ or hold the power button to turn your phone off.

How to factory reset an iPhone

  2. Tap ‘General’
  3. Tap ‘Reset’ (it’ll be close to the bottom of the menu)
  4. Tap ‘Erase All Content and Settings’
  5. Sign into your Apple ID to confirm
  6. After the reset is finished, you’ll see your iPhone’s welcome screen
