Staff walk to Waterloo for local hospice
Staff at our Wimbledon office raised over £2,500 for St Michael’s Hospice, Basingstoke as we took to the streets to ‘Walk to Waterloo’.
Last Thursday, forty staff members battled against the cold to complete the four hour sponsored walk from Wimbledon to Waterloo. The walk helped boost the office’s 2016 fundraising total for the hospice to £5,000.
Our charity work
Each year, every Domestic & General office in the UK supports a charity, chosen by their staff. The Wimbledon office’s choice for 2016 is St Michael’s Hospice, which aims to help anyone facing a life-limiting illness. It also helps their families and carers by providing a choice of specialist care and support. It was also chosen because staff member Jit Panesar’s father was cared for by the hospice.
Why we do it
Jit Panesar said of her office’s fundraising efforts this year: “This is a cause incredibly close to my heart. I shall never forget the care and support that St Michael’s and their incredible team provided to my family. It’s a privilege to be able to support such a fantastic charity. We’ll continue to keep fundraising and supporting them in the future.”
Caroline Huggett, UK HR Director and chair of the charity committee at Domestic & General, said: “This is a great achievement by our Wimbledon team! We are delighted that we’ve managed to raise £5,000 over the year so far for St Michael’s Hospice. We would like to thank all the staff involved for their fundraising and their commitment to supporting great causes.”
Jackie Ridge of St Michael’s Hospice was very grateful of the effort made by Domestic & General staff: “Thank you so much to each and every one of you for taking on the Walk to Waterloo in aid of St Michael’s. This is a fantastic challenge and we are so very grateful for your support.”
