Shopping for kitchen appliances on Black Friday?
Black Friday 2017 is on Friday 24th November – chances are you’re well aware and are gearing up to hit the shops or their websites for some bargains. But it’s easy to fall into the trap of buying the cheapest or biggest discount options; they may not necessarily be the best fit for you. If you’re looking for a washing machine or a new fridge freezer this year, we’ve got just the tips for you.
What are your must-haves?
It should go without saying that you should measure the space the appliance needs to fit into (but we’ll say it anyway).
Then you should think about what specifications you and your family need – for example the capacity of the washing machine, the storage solutions inside the fridge freezer or the settings on the oven. It might be tempting to get something bigger than you need, but bigger fridges need more electricity to run and bigger capacity washing machines use more water.
Energy rating is important
While the energy rating may not be at the front of your mind, it’s a good idea to put it in your list of necessities. Energy-efficient appliances use less electricity to achieve the same level of performance as similar models with the same size or capacity. The lower the energy rating, the less energy it will use and the less it will cost you to run.
Do your research
It’s a good idea to start looking for models you like before the big shopping event hits, or you could end up getting overwhelmed with the choice and feel pressured that you need to make a decision before the discounts come to an end. Have a leisurely browse around websites you trust and read up on the spec of appliances you like the look of.
While you’ve got time on your side, you could even pop into a store and take a look at the appliance for yourself and get some advice from a member of staff at the store.
Cheapest isn’t always best…
Have a look at what the price was before the discount – Black Friday and Cyber Monday (an online exclusive discount shopping day) are good opportunities to get huge savings on expensive items. If you can filter by discount percentage, that would be a good way to view your options. Alternatively, shop by cheapest first but keep your eyes peeled for some bargains that are further down the list.
… But stick to your budget
It doesn’t matter how big the savings are – if you overstretch yourself financially it’s not going to be a particularly merry Christmas. Keep a number in your head before you shop and stick to it.
Top tips for tackling Black Friday
1. Plan ahead – with its close proximity to Christmas, it’s a great opportunity to get some present shopping done. Electricals, clothing, perfume and more are discounted on the big day. Plan ahead and save a bundle on presents for your family and friends.
2. Be in the know – sign up for newsletters from places you’re likely to shop at… they should give you a head’s up on their Black Friday discounts so you’ll know what to expect.
3. Don’t hit the streets – the stores can get a little hectic! Shop from the comfort of your sofa to avoid any unnecessary stress. Due to the influx of traffic, some websites can crash on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but you can always make a cuppa and return to your shopping when it’s back online.
4. Keep your eyes peeled – these days, Black Friday isn’t a day; it’s an event! Some retailers have started their Black Friday promotions already – have a browse and see what you can take advantage of.
